Andreas Seppi, Leander Paes and Jeremy Chardy that are in Rome playing the Masters, visited the Vatican an attended a Mass led by Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter’s Square.

“This is a magical place,” said Paes. “This experience of seeing the Pope from so close will be something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I am very happy I had the chance to come to the Vatican today.”

The Pope saluted the players from his chair after the Vatican announced their presence. The tennis players were less than 10 metres from the Pope’s altar.

“It was an amazing experience,” said Chardy. “I always wanted to see one Mass at the Vatican and I am happy I had the opportunity to do it this year. Yesterday I had a tough day, losing in singles and doubles, so I am happy to have a much better day today.”
