Rafael Nadal to play Japan Open in 2010

Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will be playing at the 2010 Japan Open.

This is the first time that Nadal will play this event, and with his participation he gives the tennis tournament a boost after dwindling crowds in recent years.

Andy Roddick and defending Japan Open champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are also among the field at the $1.2 million tournament.

Kei Nishikori will also appear as a wildcard after missing last year’s event through injury.
