Fish and Bloomfield advance to semis at Hall of Fame

Mardy Fish defeated Frank Dancevic 6-7 6-4 6-4 to reach semifinals at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships.

Fish will next play against Richard Bloomfield, who beat Ryan Harrison 5-7 7-6 7-5.

The American is looking for a strong season after having knee surgery in September. He dropped 30 pounds and entered the week ranked 79th.

“I feel fine physically. When I had the knee injury I was hurting and I was too heavy,” he said. “I worked extremely hard with it—harder than anything I have my whole life. The results are showing.”

Against Dancevic,Fish lost the first set and also his temper as he exchange words with Dancevic during a changeover and was issued a verbal abuse warning.

“Nothing that doesn’t happen most matches for me,” he said. “It was heat-of-the-moment type stuff.”

In the second set, Fish broke for a 3-2 lead and closed out the set with a backhand shot down the sideline. In the decider he was able to take an early break in the first game and then again in the third game and never looked back.
