Ferrer beats Verdasco to reach Rome Masters final

Ferrer beats Verdasco to reach Rome Masters final

David Ferrer defeated Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 6-3 to reach the final at the Rome Masters tennis event.
In the final, Ferrer will face the winner of the semifinal match between Rafael Nadal and Ernests Gulbis.

Verdasco took a 5-1 lead in the first set but then lost six straight games and Ferrer the set and control of the match.

“It was a very physical match against Novak yesterday. I was feeling good mentally, but my body was not feeling good,” Verdasco said. “I wasn’t just tired after 5-1. I was tired every since I woke up this morning. He was making unforced errors (at the start). I wasn’t playing unbelievable.”

Verdasco has been playing amazing tennis but today he had trouble running down Ferrer’s frequent drop shots.

He produced 3 double faults at the end of the first set, including one to let Ferrer even the set at 5-5.

Verdasco won a 29-point rally in the final game, but then had to lean on his racket to gather his breath. On the next point, he hit a forehand wide of the doubles alley, and Ferrer then converted his first match point with a routine volley put away.

“These were the best three weeks of my life and my career,” Verdasco said. “I need to stay positive, recover for a few days and practice hard to be perfect for Madrid and Roland Garros.”

Fernando Gonzalez has new coach, Darren Cahill

Fernando Gonzalez has new coach, Darren Cahill

Fernando Gonzalez´official website reported that the Chilean has chosen Darren Cahill as his new coach, and they will begin to work in the preview week of Roland Garros.
Hi friends,

I want to announce that I will begin to work with australian Darren Cahill, a coach that got a lot of results with Agassi and Hewitt at their best moments and in different years. It won’t be full time because of his obligations but I trust he will help my agresive tennis with the best tactical moves of the australian school.

Currently I’m in Chile working with pysichal trainer Ricardo Luna, that is a member of the chilean Davis Cup team.

Good luck Fernando with Darren!

Nadal beats Wawrinka to reach semis in Rome

Nadal beats Wawrinka to reach semis in Rome

Rafael Nadal made it past Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the semis at the Rome Masters. He will next face Ernests Gulbis, who beat Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (6), 6-1.

Nadal had trouble finding his range off Wawrinka’s powerful serve in the opening set but managed to break to close the set

He had to repel another strong attack on his serve in the first game of the second set before breaking in the next game with an outstanding forehand winner and then ran away with the encounter.

“In the first set I was in trouble for a long time,” Nadal said. “He was winning his service games much easier than me. At 5-4 (in the first set) I started playing better and after that I played really well. I played well today but I was better in Monte Carlo.”

“I am going to the net more,” he said. “You can go to the net more when you’re dominating the points.”
