Andy Roddick vs Milos Raonic in Memphis Final

Andy Roddick vs Milos Raonic in Memphis Final

Andy Roddick beat Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis.

Roddick will try to capture his 30th career ATP crown against Milos Raonic, who defeated Mardy Fish 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Del Potro was broken in the second game of the match as Roddick raced to a 3-0 lead. The Argentine broke Roddick at the start of the second set but was broken back back in the next game and Andy broke a second time later in the set to keep the lead and then sealed the match.

“This is probably the best match I’ve played this year including Australia. I played one bad game but besides that I was making his holds tough ones and I played pretty good defence, and attacked when I had to.

“I played pretty smart and mixed up some serve and volley and I didn’t let him get any rhythm, if he sets up for enough balls and gets some rhythm he can hit it probably harder than anybody. I was happy with the way I played today.”

"To play in the final of 50 tennis tournaments as a professional is a pretty big number," Roddick said. "Better than 50 finals would be 30 wins—I think that's what I have ahead of me. Certainly a pretty big number.

"Not sure how many guys have won 30 tournaments, so it certainly kind of rounds off the number. It sounds better than 29."

“Andy was really difficult to play today. He played really well, served really well and I think he played much better than me on the important moments especially on the break points.

“Of course I’m a little sad but I have the next tournament in two days and hopefully I can be in good shape like I was in San Jose and still win matches.”

The South American will rise to about 164th in Monday's ATP rankings after back-to-back semi-final runs and Roddick said he expects Del Potro to return to the top 10 this year.

"I hope so," Del Potro. "It's a long road. Andy will be top 10, I think, forever."
