David Ferrer reaches Monte Carlo Masters 2011 Final

David Ferrer reaches Monte Carlo Masters 2011 Final

David Ferrer defeated Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final of the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco.

“I’m full of confidence. I feel good physically, and also with my tennis,” Ferrer said. “I hope I’ll keep going.”

The Spaniard needed 10 minutes to held serve in his opening service game. Melzer got the break in the third and held for a 3-1 lead. When it looked like the Austrian was in control Ferrer broke back to 3-3, and won 3 more games to seal the set.

“It’s tough against him,” Melzer said. “You don’t get a lot of chances. Those you have, you have to take. I think the luck I had the last two matches, I was a little bit unlucky today with a few bad bounces on important moments. I mean, that’s tennis. You can’t always have this momentum on your side.”

Melzer was no challenge for David in the second set as the Spaniard claimed a 5-2 lead.

Ferrer sealed the win when Melzer tried a crosscourt winner and the ball looped out after clipping the net.

In the final Ferrer will play the winner of the match between Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

“I'm very pleased to be in the finals,” said Ferrer. “It can be either Rome or Monte Carlo. I'm very pleased to be in a final of a Masters 1000. I was once in Rome, and I want to do that again. I had hoped that I would feel so well [on clay]. I'm full of confidence. I feel good physically, and also with my tennis. I hope I'll keep going.”

“I was thinking at the beginning of the first games, he played a really good game, was playing very aggressive. [It was] a surprise to me,” reflected Ferrer. “Maybe the key was in my serve. I played very consistent. I didn't make mistakes. I played very regular and very focused all the match."
