Monfils hires Leconte as new coach

Monfils hires Leconte as new coach

Gael Monfils, who split with coach Roger Rasheed in July, has hired Henri Leconte as his new coach for upcoming tournaments in Valencia and Paris-Bercy.

Leconte has worked as a television pundit since his retirement in 1996 and has never coached a player.

He said he was looking forward to working alongside Monfils' current coach Patrick Chamagne who helped Leconte prepare for the 1991 Davis Cup.

"Gael is someone who I like a lot and who has enormous potential, an atypical game and lots of charisma," said Leconte. "It's a big challenge for me but one which I'll enjoy."
