Nishikori ousts Almagro in Malaysia

Kei Nishikori upset Nicolas Almagro 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Malaysian Open.

Nishikori will face Janko Tipsarevic, who advanced after Nikolay Davydenko retired with a left hip injury.

“I don’t know what the injury is exactly yet,” Davydenko said. “I’m a bit scared as I’ve never had anything like it before. I will still go to Beijing, maybe wait a few days and see what the pain is like.”

Viktor Troicki beat Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-4 and will face Marcos Baghdatis, who defeated Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 7-6 (3), in the semis.
