"I’m excited, I’m stoked, all the words that mean you’re happy to be in my first final," declared Young. "I’ve seen a lot of my peers make finals and I’m happy to be in my first one. It’s great to beat a Top 10 player of the calibre of Gael."

“Lately in the big matches that I’ve won, I’ve been down,” Young said. “I just tried to fight and not give up. It paid dividends at the end of match.”

"Donald played very well. I had opportunities but I didn't manage to play better than him in the key moments of the match," said Monfils. "He was just better than me today."

Young will face Andy Murray or Gilles Simon in the final.

“It’s going to be tough either person I play,” Young said. “Hope I go out there and have a good match.”
