Djokovic says ‘represents’ all peoples of ex-Yugoslavia

Novak Djokovic said Wednesday he considered himself a "representative" of all peoples of the former Yugoslav federation that broke up in a series of bloody wars in 1990s.

"I feel as the representative of all peoples of former Yugoslavia and I want to say that here, in Banja Luka," Djokovic was quoted as saying by daily Nezavisne Novine's online edition.

Djokovic was in Banja Luka, capital of the Serb-run entity in Bosnia, after being voted Person of the Year by Nezavisne Novine's readers.

Nadal to play Monaco to open Davis Cup final

Argentina decided to hold back David Nalbandian, choosing Juan Monaco against Rafael Nadal in the opening singles of the Davis Cup final.

The second-ranked Nadal will return to the Olympic Stadium, where he helped Spain win the title in 2004, to face the 26th-ranked Monaco in the opener of the best-of-five series. Fifth-ranked David Ferrer will play Juan Martin del Potro.

Nalbandian, who has been sidelined since mid-October with various injuries, will team with Eduardo Schwank in doubles on Saturday.

Hewitt receives Australian Open 2012 wild card

Lleyton Hewitt has received a wild-card spot in the Australian Open 2012 next month.

Hewitt is 188th after several injury-plagued seasons, but tournament director Craig Tiley said Thursday giving the 2005 runner-up a spot was the easiest decision he has had to make.

Tiley said “Lleyton has had some bad luck with injury recently, which has seen his ranking drop, but he has proved time and time again he can never be discounted, particularly in a big match.”
