Rafa into Barcelona semifinals
Rafael Nadal dispatched Janko Tipsarevic 6-2, 6-2 to reach the Barcelona Open 2012 semifinals.
Nadal moved his opponent around the red-clay court with his powerful forehand and broke Tipsarevic in his first service game to set the tone of the encounter.
The Serb earned three break points in the last game of the first set, but Nadal recovered to win five straight points.
Rafa was broken to make it 2-2 in the second set, but then won the next four games to seal the win in 1 hour, 23 minutes.
"I felt well. I played a very good match, better than yesterday," said Nadal. "Very happy to be back in the semi-finals.You cannot expect an easy match against the No. 8 in the world. 6-2, 6-2 is a very good result for me."
"In the first set I was playing really well, and then at the start of the second he attacked more while I left my shots short," Nadal said. "But I am satisfied with the match. I am in the semifinals again. Tomorrow I will have to play at my highest level."
"I have a lot of confidence from my past results here but it doesn't mean it will continue that way," Nadal said. "Each match is different. I go on court and try my best in every moment and hope it goes well for me."
Nadal will face Fernando Verdasco, who advanced after Kei Nishikori retired, for a place in the final.
