Gasquet out, Roddick advances in Eastbourne

Richard Gasquet lost 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) to Marinko Matosevic in the second round match at the AEGON International.

Gasquet broke twice in the opening set after dominating his opponent, but then in the second set he missed four break point opportunities and lost the set in the tie breaker.

In the decider they reached the tie break again and Matosevic won it to seal the victory.

Andy Roddic advanced when Sam Querrey retired with a back injury. The former world number 1 was leading 5-2.

"I felt like this was the best place to [prepare]," said Roddick. "You can't really replicate match situations in practice, so it's something I needed. They afforded me the opportunity to play here and I'm thankful for it."

Philipp Kohlschreiber scored a 6-4, 7-5 win over Go Soeda. The German fired eight aces and broke serve three times.

Yen-Hsun Lu upset Julien Benneteau 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(4) in two hours and 29 minutes and Denis Istomin defeated Michael Llodra 6-4, 6-3 in 65 minutes.
