Federer wins to reach Olympic quarterfinals
Roger Federer reached the quarterfinals at the 2012 London Olympic Games after defeating Denis Istomin 7-5, 6-3.
Serving at 5-all in the first set, Federer saved three break points and then broke Istomin's serve to seal the set.
From that point on, the world number 1 was in control of the match.
Federer will play Janko Tipsarevic or John Isner for a place in the semi-finals.
"It was tough," Federer said. "I started really well and went into a 3-0 lead but he came back and I was a little bit shaken up I guess.
"He played aggressively and started to serve well, not to mention the rain delay at 5-5, 15-30 which wasn't very comfortable.
"I got a bit lucky obviously, saving a couple of set points. Then I think I was able to play a bit more aggressively, I relaxed and played a good match in the end."
