Djokovic to face Del Potro in Cincy semis

Novak Djokovic will play against Juan Martin del Potro in the Cincinnati Open semi-finals today.

Nole scored a 6-3 6-2 victory over Marin Cilic while Delpo beat Jeremy Chardy 6-1 6-3.

"It was my best match so far here in this tournament and came in the right moment, really," Djokovic said.

"I had the biggest challenge today with Cilic who has been playing well the last couple of months and I played a really good match."

The Serb may have added incentive today given Serbia's Davis Cup semi-final loss to Argentina last year in which Djokovic retired against Del Potro.

Rafa withdrew from Cincinnati

It looks like all Rana fans will have to wait to see him on the court again as he has just pulled out of the tennis event next week in Cincinnati.

It´s so sad to see how long is taking Rafa to recover but let´s cross our fingers and hope he can return 100% fit for the US Open.

Today, the former world number 1 announced on Facebook he is not ready to compete just yet.

"Hi all, another message to announce something that definitely doesn't make me happy, but unfortunately I won't be competing at the tournament in Cincinnati next week. I am still not ready to play. I have many fans in Cincy and unforgettable moments such as 2008. I am continuing with my recup and practice. Thanks!" He wrote.

Murray wins Cincinnati Masters as Djokovic retires

Andy Murray won the ATP's Cincinnati Masters as Novak Djokovic retired injured while trailing 6-4, 3-0.

Djokovic was hindered during the match by a sore right shoulder, a problem the Serb had alluded to after his abbreviated victory over Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals.

"Obviously when he started to slow down his serve toward the end of the first set it was going to be tough for him," said Murray. "Sometimes things can warm up when you play, sometimes they get worse. I just tried to stay focused."

Murray made the most of Djokovic's sluggish start to grab an early break. The Serbian managed to break back but his painful shoulder clearly affected his serve late in the first set.

He received treatment after the first set but in the second he appeared to have trouble even reaching for overheads and called it a day—no doubt with the start of the US Open on August 29 in mind.

"Not the way I wanted it to happen," Murray said of becoming just the second man to beat Djokovic in 2011.

"I had a chance, served for the match against him in Rome and lost—that was a tough one for me. It's nice to win, but I'd rather beat him in three weeks' time."

That time frame would have Murray facing Djokovic across the net in the US Open final in New York, and the Scotsman said his week in Ohio had encouraged him heading into the final Grand Slam of the season.

"I've hit the ball better and better as the week went on," he said.

Murray vs Djokovic in Cincinnati Final

Novak Djokovic was up 7-5 against Tomas Berdych when his Czech opponent was forced to retire with a right shoulder injury.

In the final of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, Djokovic will face Andy Murray, who beat Mardy Fish 63 76.

“It’s great I’m in another final. It's a great achievement. Tomorrow I'll try to get another title.” said Djokovic, who returned from a four-week break last week with victory at the Rogers Cup in Montreal (d. Fish). “I hope it’s not going to be too hot and let’s hope for another good match. We have a good rivalry, same age, same generation and it’s nice to play him in a final again.

“This is a surface that he plays well on, I think,” the Serb continues. “We played here finals, two tough sets, and he has won that. So he knows what it takes to win a big match, a big tournament. So there is no favourite tomorrow.”

“In the beginning, [the injury] just started like if I had to stretch, especially for the backhand side and some air balls,” explained Berdych. “But since the match was going on, then especially it started more on the serve, which is for me the worst.

“I felt pretty well in the beginning, so I was pretty much confident that if I would stay healthy that I would have a really good chance today. Right now I'm just really hoping to get ready to be ready for my first match at the US Open.”
