Albot wins first ATP title

Radu Albot defeated Dan Evans 3-6 6-3 7-6(7) to win his first ATP title at the Delray Beach Open.

Albot displayed nerves of steel in the dramatic final tiebreak, staving off defeat with a series of clutch shots.

Evans missed his match-point opportunities by the barest of margins and then, with Albot on his first match point, double-faulted to hand the Moldovan the title.

Dan Evans targeting Glasgow Challenger for start of comeback from drugs ban

Dan Evans is targeting the new $100,000 Challenger event in Glasgow, which starts on April 28, as the venue for his comeback from a 12-month doping ban.

Evans tested positive for cocaine in Barcelona last April, and was perhaps fortunate to get away with a single-year penalty when Martina Hingis received two years for the same offence in 2007.

Dan Evans draws closer to his comeback date of April 24, he has been warned by the Lawn Tennis Association that their support is dependent on him cleaning up his act.

Dan Evans has admitted he tested positive for cocaine in April.

Evans organized a news conference in London on Friday and read a statement. He took no questions.

"I made a mistake and I must face up to it. I can only deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart."

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga def Dan Evans 6-7(4) 6-2 6-4 6-4

Q. A lot of us were watching Murray on the other court. We came back to see what we could of yours. How would you assess your performance?
DANIEL EVANS: Yeah, he was just a bit too strong for me. Yeah, I played pretty well. I was pretty sore. Yeah, he was so physical today. To win the first set took too much out of me. Long game at the start of the second set. I got broke. Yeah, it was uphill from there.

I fought as hard as I could. Yeah, just got to say 'well done' to him.

Dan Evans def Bernard Tomic 7-5 7-6(2) 7-6(3)

Q. Five appearances at the net in the first set, then 50 plus from then on. What changed?
DANIEL EVANS: I was just struggling at the start to find a rhythm off his ball. Yeah, that was it really. You know, I didn't really find it until the middle of the second.

But, yeah, I needed to be a bit more aggressive. The match was being really slow, playing into sort of his hands. Yeah, so I felt I needed to come forward to put my game on him a bit more. He was dictating in the first set. I didn't like how the match was sort of going.

Dan Evans def Marin Cilic 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-3

Q. How do you assess the whole match? A wonderful performance.
DAN EVANS: Yeah, it was good. Slow start really. I was a bit taken aback how hard he hit the ball. So, yeah, had to sort of get in the match and hang in at the start of the second.

Q. Can you tell us what problem you had in your eye.
DAN EVANS: Just a fly went in it. There were flies, a little gnat, whatever it was. I just washed it out.
