Anderson wins Delray Beach International 2012 title

Kevin Anderson beat Marinko Matosevic 6-4, 7-6 to win the ATP Tour's Delray Beach International 2012 title.

Anderson couldn't convert any of his eight break chances in the second set, but he took control early in the tiebreaker to finish off the victory in just under two hours.

"Both of us were a little nervous at the start of match, so I had to find my rhythm," said Anderson.

"I think at the end, I felt I was mentally composed throughout (the tournament). I didn't let any patches of bad tennis affect my mindset."

Anderson beats Isner at Delray Beach, reaches final

Kevin Anderson beat John Isner 7-5, 7-6 (4) to advance to the final of the Delray Beach International Tennis Championship.

Anderson’ll face Marinko Matosevic in the final on Sunday.

Isner was broken once in the first set and then double-faulted away the first point of the second-set tiebreaker against the seventh-seeded Anderson.

Isner entered with a 9-1 record in tiebreakers this season.

Roddick loses to Anderson at Delray Beach

Andy Roddick lost to Kevin Anderson 26 76 64 at the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach International.

“There’s not often I can look back at my career and say a serve lost me the match,” Roddick said. “But, today, that was the case. I’ve made a career of getting my first serves in.”

Despite the loss, Roddick feels his game is getting into better shape after dealing with a right hamstring and right ankle injury this season.

“I played OK this week,” Roddick said. “I returned a little bit better. I flowed a little bit better than a week ago. It’s just a matter of getting my percentage better on my serve.”

Roddick capitalised on all three of his break point opportunities during his win.

The American next faces Kevin Anderson, who defeated Xavier Malisse 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 56 minutes.

Philipp Kohlschreiber dismissed Ivan Dodig 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals as well.

John Isner beat Jesse Levine 6-4, 7-5 in the first round at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships 2012.

Jarkko Nieminen upset Marin Cilic 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Isner barely held off a tenacious Levine, who trailed his compatriot throughout the tiebreaker. The match ended when Levine’s backhand hit the top of the net and carried long, putting Isner into the second round.

“I served very well and to be honest I was very lucky to win it,” said Isner. “To be honest, if I lost that second set I didn’t really fancy my chances in the third because the humidity was getting to me.”

Roddick hopes for turnaround at Delray Beach

Andy Roddick is hoping to turn around his dismal start to the season at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Roddick usually does well in the first couple of months of the year but this time he’s battling injuries.

The American will face Philipp Petzschner in the first round at Delray Beach on Tuesday night.

“Honestly, I’m not as concerned with ranking,” Roddick said. “I just want to get into a flow again rather than some days on, some days off. I just want to play continuously for a while.”

Juan Martin Del Potro wins Delray Beach Title

Juan Martin del Potro upset Janko Tipsarevic 6-4,6-4 to win the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships title.

Del Potro rallied from a 1-4 deficit to start the match. He saved five break points in the 10th game of the opening set before converting on his third set point.

He broke Tipsarevic to go up 3-2 in the second set and fought off three break points in the next game.

The Argentine received 250 ATP Ranking points for his victory, and will be back in the Top 100 for the first time since November. Del Potro will have risen 400 rankings spots from No. 484 to a projected No. 85 in a three-week span.

Del Potro to Play Tipsarevic in Delray Beach Final

Juan Martin del Potro defeated Mardy Fish 6-1, 7-5 to reach the ATP Delray Beach Championships final.

"It's amazing for me, this comeback, and I'm trying to get better day by day," Del Potro said. "I'm trying to play similar to 2009 but it is very tough. Tomorrow I'll be in my first final in more than a year and that's great for me."

Del Potro will next play Janko Tipsarevic, who ibeat Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-4l.

Del Potro played a flawless first set, but went down 4-1 in the second. The Argentine managed to break back and level at 4-4, and after Fish held serve for a 5-4 lead del Potro won the final three games.

"He improved his game in the second set and he's very dangerous," Del Potro said. "I just became very focused on trying to break his serve.

"In the important moments I played better and that was the key for the match."

“I played my best match of the week; to beat Fish on this surface is pretty good,” del Potro said. “I am glad to be back in the final for the first time in more than a year. That is important for my comeback and my future. I will enjoy the final and try to win.

My goal at the moment is to improve my game day by day. It was my goal to be no. 1 two years ago but I don’t know if I can put that as my goal again because I don’t know how far my level can go.”

Fish said that he was disappointed to let slip his chance in the second set when he led 4-1. “I just played loose points in those serve games. He obviously played some great points, especially on break points. He doesn’t exactly wait for you to miss. Some guys get a little tight in that situation not wanting to give away those points, but he’s comfortable swinging from the hips. All credit to him. He seems to be playing well."

“He’s so tall. He’s a tall 6’ 6”. He has long arms and it feels that any penetrating ball I hit is still in his strike zone. I’ve got to almost shank a ball almost over his head to get it out of his strike zone. It seems like his strike zone is five feet... and pretty much any ball on his forehand is a deadly shot." He added.
