Ferrer vs Janowicz in Paris Masters final

Jerzy Janowicz beat Gilles Simon 6-4, 7-5 to reach his first ATP final where he will face David Ferrer at the Paris Masters.

Ferrer ended Michael Llodra´s run with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

The Pole 12 aces and did not face a break point. He broke Simon once in each set to seal the win.

“There was no surprise about this. I played a player who's totally confident right now,” said Simon. “He is playing and having fun while he's playing. He's hitting as hard as he can each time.

“This is what I saw from his game on the previous matches, and I was not surprised with how he played against me today. He is very difficult to return. Normally I'm supposed to be one of the best returners on the tour, and I was not able to do that today.”

This Janowicz, who in January didn't have money and sponsorship to travel to the Australian Open, beat Philipp Kohlschreiber, Marin Cilic, Andy Murray and Janko Tipsarevic.

Janowicz into Paris Masters semis

Jerzy Janowicz advanced to the semis at the Paris Masters when Janko Tipsarevic retired while trailing 3-6, 6-1, 4-1.

After losing the opening set, Janowicz stepped up his game and broke Tipsarevic twice and held to love on his service game to even the match.

Tipsarevic was broken after double-faulting twice in the third game of the third set and Janowicz then held to get a 3-1 lead. He broke Tipsarevic again with a booming forehand winner for a 4-1 advantage.

Then the Serb called for a trainer as he appeared to complain of dizziness and stuck out his tongue while a trainer checked his throat.

Tipsarevic briefly continued and Janowicz was ahead 40-0 on his serve when the Serb waved his racket to indicate he was stopping.

Gasquet earned $99,645 in prize money and 250 Rankings points.

Simon broke Gasquet in the opening game but was broken right back.

Gasquet broke again at 4-2 and in the eighth game seal the set.

Richard broke Simon for a 3-1 lead in the second set, then again in the sixth game. Than he held for victory in 69 minutes.

Gilles Simon upset Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the 2012 Thailand Open final where he will face countryman Richard Gasquet.

Gasquet defeated Jarkko Nieminen 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Simon broke the Serb in his first service game and then saved a break point in the 10th game before clinching the set. In the second set he broke for a 5-4 lead and never looked back.

"It was a very, very good match today and I couldn't have done better than that," said Simon. "Janko has been playing amazing tennis since last year; he is hitting hard and isn't losing a lot. I think I played the perfect match, but it will still close. It gives me confidence for the final."

Kei Nishikori advanced into the quarterfinals at the Olympics after beating David Ferrer 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.

Gilles Simon, who was elected last weekend to a two-year term on the ATP Player Council, doesn´t care much about winning the love of his fellow women tennis players.

The Frenchman commented he's opposed to men and women tennis players receiving equal prize money.

"I think that men’s tennis is really ahead of women’s tennis at this stage," he said. "Once more, the men spent surely twice as much time on court as the women at the French Open. We often talk about salary equality. I don’t think it’s something that works in sport. I think we are the only sport that has parity with the women in terms of prize money. Meanwhile, men’s tennis remains more attractive than women’s tennis at this moment."

Andy Murray beat David Nalbandian 6-1 4-6 7-5 in the second round of the Rome Masters tennis event.

On his birthday, Murray stormed through the first set but the Argentina was able to send the match into the decider where he got a brak up to lead 3-1.

Nalbandian used the drop shot and angled groundstrokes to great effect but after getting that break he was broken back and then, at 5-5, the Scott broke to love to lead 6-5 before saving two break-back points to reach round three.

It took 2 hrs, 37 min for the Scot to prevail, managing 29 winners and converting eight of his 18 break point chances.

Gilles Simon beat Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-3 to win the Nastase Tiriac Trophy.

Fognini made a determined start and broke early for a 2-0 lead before Simon recovered to make it 2-2.

The Frenchman broke again to lead 3-2, but immediately lost his serve in a game where both players made several forays to the net.

At 3-3, Simon broke for the third time and held on to take the set, despite an apparent eye injury.

The second set was dominated by several long rallies, but Simon seemed more in control and at 2-2 broke to take the lead. Leading 5-3, Simon trailed 40-0 on Fognini's serve before rallying to win the match.

Gilles Simon beat Matthias Bachinger 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the final of the Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2012 tennis event in Bucharest.

The Frenchman clinched his fourth ATP World Tour semifinal victory this season.

"It was a difficult match again," said Simon. "His serve was amazing today and he saved many break points with aces or winners. I was playing and moving better than yesterday, but Matthias gave me a hard time on the court.

"I feel good. I know that I can play very good here," added Simon. "I know the centre court perfectly and I really think I can win this tournament one more time."

Rafael Nadal scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gilles Simon to set up a final meeting with Novak Djokovic at the 2012 Monte Carlo Masters.

Djokovic battle past Tomas Berdych 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance.

Nole started the match by taking a 4-2 lead in the first set but then felt the full weight of the Berdych forehand and lost four consecutive games to fell behind a set to love.

The Serb got an early break in the second set and kept the advantage to level the match. He stepped it up in the decider, racing to a 4-0 lead before closing out victory.

"That's probably one of the most difficult conditions that I played in, in my career, really," said Djokovic. "It was not just the strength of the wind that was blowing, it was the changing of the direction. You couldn't really predict where the ball was going to come from. It was really tough. But in the end I managed to hold my nerves and play well in the third."

Rafael Nadal defeated Stanislas Wawrinka 7-5, 6-4 at the 2012 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters semifinal.

Rafa will face Gilles Simon for a place in the final.

Nadal claimed victory in one hour and 47 minutes. He went a break up but the Swiss was able to level at 4-4. The Spaniard broke again in the 11th game to win the opening set. He then broke Wawrinka in the first game of the second set and never looked back.

"Yesterday and today I improved the level," said Nadal. "Today was a difficult match. I had before the match big respect for this afternoon. He arrived for the match playing I think great. [He had a] fantastic victory yesterday, 6-3, 6-3 [against Almagro]. I am happy about the way that I played. I'm in the semi-finals. That's a fantastic news for me. Just looking forward to playing a good match tomorrow."

Gael Monfils beat Gilles Simon 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 to reach the final of the Open Sud de France 2012.

Monfils will play Tomas Berdych or Philipp Kohlschreiber for the title.

Gael whipped a forehand winner to break for a 2-1 lead in the first set. But Simon broke back in the sixth game with a backhand return winner.
Simon put Monfils under pressure at 5-4 and took the first set when Monfils netted a forehand.

Monfils saved eight break points in the second set, including a match point at 6-5, to force a tiebreaker. He evened the match at one set apiece on a forehand error by Simon.

"I think I played a good match," said Simon. "He has a strange game, strange serve; his serve is not easy to read and he would rush to the net. So it was surprising. I thought I was better than him from the baseline, so I really wanted to engage him every time. He would do something very good, and then something very bad right after. I never knew what to do exactly, so that was why the match was complicated."
