Mischa Zverev defeated Lukas Lacko 64 64 to win the Nature Valley International title.

Zverev was a blanket at the net throughout the encounter, charging forward to cover every inch of Centre Court. The change in rhythm would rattle Lacko, whose unforced error count steadily rose throughout the 97-minute affair.

He converted an immediate break opportunity in the opening game of the match. Lacko had few answers for Zverev's game.

The Germa would battle for a second break after a 21-point game midway through the second set. Lacko did well to turn aside five opportunities but was unable to deny the sixth, as Zverev claimed an unassailable lead by 4-2. He secured the title with an ace on his first championship point.

Zverev volleying his way to the big time

Zverev volleying his way to the big time

When the U.S. Open began, the idea that a German man named Zverev would be in the last 16 would barely have raised an eyebrow.

But while Alexander, who has won five titles in 2017, went out in round two, it is his older brother Mischa who has been doing the family name proud.

At 30, Mischa Zverev has enjoyed a superb year, putting the gloss on a stunning rise up the rankings, from outside the top 1000 in 2015 to the verge of a place in the top 20.

M. ZVEREV/J. Isner 6-4, 6-3, 7-6
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. He seemed to have a lot of trouble passing you. What were you able to do to make it difficult for him?

MISCHA ZVEREV: Say again.

Q. He seemed to have a lot of trouble passing you. What were you able to do to make that tough for him?

MISCHA ZVEREV: I think approach well and try to cover the net very well and read where he's going to pass. I've played him a couple times this year already. I kind of know his pattern, so I try to read his positioning on the court, his footwork.
Yeah, I feel like if I get lucky in the beginning of a match, and I get a couple, like, tough passing shots, then he maybe starts feeling like the court becomes smaller, maybe he starts missing a few here or there. That's kind of my advantage.
