Andy Murray underwent hip surgery on Monday but is optimistic about his chances of returning in time for Wimbledon and believes he can still challenge for major titles.

Murray has not played a competitive match since hobbling to defeat by Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon quarter-finals six months ago and last week he withdrew from the Australian Open.

"Today I underwent successful right hip surgery at the St Vincent Hospital in Melbourne," Murray said.

Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic won the deciding Fast4 mixed doubles 4-3 (3), 4-2 Saturday over Germany to give Switzerland its third Hopman Cup title.

Federer rebounded from a close first-set loss to dominate the rest of the match in a 6-7 (4), 6-0, 6-2 win over Alexander Zrevev.

Angelique Kerber beat Bencic 6-4, 6-1 to send the championship to the mixed doubles decider. It was Kerber's fourth straight singles win at the Hopman Cup this year.

Nick Kyrgios beat Ryan Harrison 6-4 6-2 to win the Brisbane International title. His maiden tour title on home soil.

Carrying a niggling knee injury, Kyrgios made a slow start and was forced to save five break points before he managed to carve out own his first break in the seventh game.

The 22-year-old claimed the first set before taking control of the match after his American opponent dropped serve at the start of the second set with a double fault.

Gilles Simon won his first major ATP Tour title since 2015 when the Frenchman defeated second-seeded Kevin Anderson 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the final of the Maharashtra Open on Saturday.

The World No. 89 Simon was in supreme form in the opening week of the new year as he also defeated defending champion Roberto Bautisa Agut in the second round and stunned top- seeded Marin Cilic in the semifinals.

Gael Monfils won the 2018 Qatar Open title with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Andrey Rublev.

Monfils outclassed Rublev in 61 minutes.

"I'm very happy," Monfils said. "I like this tournament so much. I always come back and I finally got it. So I'm just very happy and very proud.
