Sam Querrey upset by Dustin Brown in Newport

Sam Querrey was upset by Dustin Brown 6-4, 6-3 in just 47 minutes in the second round of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport.

Brown won 33 of 34 of his first-serve points and relied on a quick pace and big serve that produced 14 aces to frustrate Querrey.

“Half the time I was walking over to the other side and the ball was in the air for him to serve,” Querrey said .

Brown broke Querrey to lead 3-2 in the the second set, winning with a well-placed drop shot at the net. Both players then held serve, when Brown came back from the changeover and closed the eighth game with three straight aces. In the next game Querrey hit a forehand into the net after Brown moved to match point with a backhand passing shot down the sideline.

“I wasn’t expecting to break him. I knew I was serving well,” Brown said. “When I broke him, I just wanted to continue to serve well. Everything just struck together for me. It’s going to take a while to sink in.”
