Novak Djokovic defeated Andrey Golubev 4-6 6-3 6-1 to give Serbia an unbeatable 2-0 lead over Kazakhstan at the Hopman Cup mixed team event in Perth.
Earlier, Ana Ivanovic scored a 7-6 6-1 win over Yaroslava Shvedova.
Golubev took advantage of Djokovic, who was a bit slow, during the opening set but then the Serb broke in the opening game of the second set and with his confidence restored he dropped just four more games.
Djokovic and Ivanovic were due to take on Golubev and Shvedova in the mixed doubles to decide the final result.
