Murray beats Tsonga to reach London semis

Andy Murray scored a 6-2 7-6 victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to set up a semi-final clash with Roger Federer at the ATP World Tour Finals.

Murray took a 4-0 lead after breaking Tsonga twice in the opening set.

Tsonga finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth game but was not able to battle for the set as Murray claimed it in 33 minutes.

Two double faults from Tsonga helped Murray break serve at the start of the second but the Scot lose focus and allowed Tsonga to break to love and level at 4-4.

Another sell-out crowd at the famous London venue were treated to some entertaining rallies as Tsonga went for broke but Murray avoided using up any extra energy when he claimed a second set tiebreak 7-3.

Murray hit 18 winners and three aces, winning 12 of his 15 points at the net. Tsonga committed 36 unforced errors, winning just 12 of his 31 second service points.

"I'm somebody who never give up," Tsonga said. "So sometimes you are not playing a good tennis, and you keep fighting, you keep believing in you, and then it comes better and better."

"I will keep some positive things," said Tsonga. "I played some really good players. I was not that far. So I'm sure if I work a lot, if I improve, I will have a chance to beat them for the next season."
