Will Federer win a Grand Slam in 2014?

In the current crop of players, Roger Federer has long stood out as the king of tennis players. He has more Grand Slam victories than any other player and he’s not looking ready to retire yet.

Only Pete Sampras’ record comes close to Federer’s. Sampras had 14 Grand Slams under his belt when he retired, but Federer has 17, and may add to that tally yet. However, Spaniard Rafael Nadal is coming up close with 13 Grand Slams to his name already, and he clearly has a chance of beating Federer’s record one day, with age on his side, too.

However, when it comes to playing on grass, Roger is in a league of his own. Eight of Nadal’s Grand Slams have been on clay at Paris, but Federer has won seven grass Wimbledon Championships. Sampras achieved the same, with his final victory there in 2000. But this year, we could see a new record for the history books if Federer were to win the Wimbledon Championship for an incredible eighth time.

His last victory there was in 2012, when the suave Swiss player stole Andy Murray’s chance of his first Wimbledon title – much to the disappointment of the expectant British public. However, Murray had his own turn at victory the same summer, taking Olympic Gold at the same venue, and beating Federer in the final to do so. Then 2013 saw Murray finally taking the Wimbledon Championship for himself, beating Novak Djokovic 3-0 in the final match.

So now is Federer looking for one more Wimbledon victory? Currently he’s ranked number eight in the world and at 32, he’s viewed as a veteran on the tennis courts. But he’s already reached the semi-final of the Australian Open this year at Melbourne and has added Stefan Edberg to his coaching staff. Not the behaviour you’d expect from someone ready to bow out of tennis. As grass is his best surface, Wimbledon represents his strongest Grand Slam prospects this year.

However, when you look at the bookies’ odds, you’ll see that the market doesn’t rate his chances. At the time of writing, he’s 5th favourite on the sports book at 32Red Casino. But this could prove to be a shrewd punt, if Roger really is determined to get one more victory at Wimbledon. And by joining 32red casino, you might even be able to have that bet for free. When you join the site, you’ll get bonus credit of $32 for every $10 you put in, and if you then do well on casino games with that bonus money, you could transfer some profit over to the sports book and have a punt on Federer.

If it’s down to heart and determination, as well as physical form, Federer’s certainly got a chance at winning one more Wimbledon Championship; why not make it interesting and back him with a free bet?
