Nieminen advances to 2nd round of Thailand Open

Nieminen advances to 2nd round of Thailand Open

Jarkko Nieminen battle past Dominic Thiem 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Thailand Open 2011.

Nieminen was two points away from losing in the 10th game of the deciding set against Thiem. But he held his serve and then earned the decisive break, despite having struggled with an illness for the last three days.

"It was difficult because I was lying in bed ill most of the past three days. I’m feeling better and better all the time and I felt in many stages I was playing well. This young guy is very talented. I don’t want to take anything from him, he played a great match.” Said Nieminen.

Matthias Bachinge also advanced after beating Greg Jones 7-5, 6-4, and Michael Berrer downed Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (4), 6-3.
